Are our students really learning? Reflect, rethink, redesign

Join HERDSA Vic for a workshop/webinar to explore the fundamentals of learning, including how we learn, key principles of learning, and the role of active learning. Inspired by the ongoing discussions around generative AI in education, participants will tackle the critical question: In what ways can the use of GenAI in the learning process compromise student learning or, alternatively, enable deeper learning?

Remembering Bob Ross

Bob Ross died on July 23, 2025 in Nimbin NSW at the age of 94 years, after a brief period in residential care. He was born Robert Argent Ross in Broken Hill on April 15, 1931 and is remembered by his long, distinguished career in Science and Education, and as a great friend and colleague to all who knew him.

He achieved a BSc. and Dip.Ed at Sydney University in 1952/53, followed by an MSc. at New England University in 1960. He shifted overseas and took a PhD at London University in 1966. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1967.

Translating Research, Leading Change – A Global Academic’s Journey

HERDSA International Academics SIG hosted Professor Frances Lin on 18 August, 2025.

Professor Frances Lin delivered an inspiring presentation tracing her academic journey from China to Australia, where she completed both her Master’s and PhD in Queensland. From the outset, she recognised the value of building a strong research profile by actively seeking opportunities to engage with research groups.
