The 5C Framework: Your Blueprint for SOTL Research

Wondering if you should get involved in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)? You’re not alone. As a higher education instructor, it’s easy to wonder: Isn’t teaching enough? Why do I need to research my teaching? How can considering ways to explore student learning be research? The short answer is engaging with SOTL can enhance your own teaching, support your colleagues in strengthening theirs, and at the same time support student engagement and learning. However, it’s not always a simple shift.

In memory of Angela Brew

It is with great sadness that we inform the higher education community of the passing of Angela Brew, a much-loved and deeply respected life-member of HERDSA.

Angela dedicated her academic career to improving the student experience of teaching and learning. She credited HERDSA with being a tremendous source of support, ideas, inspiration and friendship throughout her many years in higher education.

HERDSA Executive 2025-2027 Election

Nominations for the 2025-2027 HERDSA Executive have now been received and the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies for the required HERDSA Executive positions.  In accordance with the HERDSA Constitution an election must now be held.  


HERDSA SoTL SIG March recap: Reflecting on reflective practices as SoTL Scholars.
