Cultural walks and Experiences

The HERDSA Victoria Branch arranged an opportunity for Branch members to undertake a guided cultural tour of the Birrarung Marr, Barak Bridge and MCG Scar Trees. The walk aimed to highlight the significant history of the land on which you are walking and looks to reveal the cultural relationship between people and place. Walkers meeting at the John Davies Memorial Tree, East Melbourne (next to MCG) for the inner city walk and were guided by members of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

Global Leadership Journey: Insights from Professor Mathews Nkhoma

The HERDSA International Academics Special Interest Group recently hosted an inspiring presentation by Professor Mathews Nkhoma, Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor at RMIT Melbourne. In this engaging session, Professor Nkhoma shared his remarkable academic leadership journey, which began in Malawi and has spanned the UK, UAE, Vietnam, and now Australia.

The 5C Framework: Your Blueprint for SOTL Research

Wondering if you should get involved in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)? You’re not alone. As a higher education instructor, it’s easy to wonder: Isn’t teaching enough? Why do I need to research my teaching? How can considering ways to explore student learning be research? The short answer is engaging with SOTL can enhance your own teaching, support your colleagues in strengthening theirs, and at the same time support student engagement and learning. However, it’s not always a simple shift.
