Remembering Bob Ross

Bob Ross died on July 23, 2025 in Nimbin NSW at the age of 94 years, after a brief period in residential care. He was born Robert Argent Ross in Broken Hill on April 15, 1931 and is remembered by his long, distinguished career in Science and Education, and as a great friend and colleague to all who knew him.

He achieved a BSc. and Dip.Ed at Sydney University in 1952/53, followed by an MSc. at New England University in 1960. He shifted overseas and took a PhD at London University in 1966. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1967.

Translating Research, Leading Change – A Global Academic’s Journey

HERDSA International Academics SIG hosted Professor Frances Lin on 18 August, 2025.

Professor Frances Lin delivered an inspiring presentation tracing her academic journey from China to Australia, where she completed both her Master’s and PhD in Queensland. From the outset, she recognised the value of building a strong research profile by actively seeking opportunities to engage with research groups.


Reflections on the August Assessment Quality SIG Catch-Up & Lightning Round

On 15 August 2025, the HERDSA Assessment Quality SIG came together for our first Lightning Round session of the year. It was energising to see colleagues from across institutions engage with the pressing challenges and possibilities shaping assessment today.


HERDSA Online Engagement in HE SiG Lightning Talks – Key Takeaways

On August 14th, the HERSDA Online Engagement in HE SiG once again enjoyed a showcase of lightning talks related to topics focused on online engagement. The collection of presentations reflected the energy and creativity of colleagues exploring strategies and associated scholarship related fostering connection, confidence, and belonging in online learning. In just five-minute bursts, presenters shared projects that stretched from humour and AI to equity and student voice.
