Academic Developers: our HERDSA SIG happens next week!
Mon, 29th Jun, 12pm - 1pm AEST

A focus on learning and teaching events.

Do you run teaching and learning events such as workshops, webinars, communities of practice, forums, or conferences? How well do they actually work for participants?
In this SIG, one of the community members, Dr Hasti Abbasi (Deakin University), will draw on her recent AdvanceHE case study on designing a university teaching and learning conference to facilitate a conversation about how we design and run education events.

We'll explore practical strategies for:
• Building leadership opportunities for early career educators into event design
• Designing events as coherent development opportunities, not one-offs
• Making events more inclusive and accessible, covering format, pacing, materials, and participant experience

Come along to exchange ideas, share what's worked (and what hasn't), and connect with others who care about creating welcoming spaces for teaching and learning conversations. All event formats will be considered (ranging from small group events to seminars, workshops and forums), so bring your experiences, questions, and ideas.

Call for submissions: Australasian Academic Integrity Network
26 June 2026

Fully online event to be held Fri, 11 September 2026.

Share knowledge, best practice and explore key questions in the challenging and rapidly changing field of academic integrity. The event is open to academic and professional staff in Australian and New Zealand higher education institutions.

Presenter options: Roundtable discussions (40-minute sessions) or a Digital poster (prepared 5 min video and meeting time in the program). Accepted presenters will receive free registration.

Submission: a 200 word abstract focused on academic integrity.

Global Students as Partners Roundtable 2026 – Call for Contributions
To allow additional time for submissions, we are extending the abstract submission deadline to 6 July.

The University of Sydney invites submissions for the Global Students as Partners Roundtable 2026, taking place on 1–2 October 2026 in Sydney, Australia.

This year’s theme, Living the Claims: Embedding Equity for Authentic Partnership in a Changing World, explores how equity can be meaningfully embedded within Students as Partners practice across diverse higher education contexts.

We welcome contributions from students, staff, and student–staff partnerships. Submissions in all formats are encouraged, including research presentations, practice showcases, workshops, panel discussions, reflections, and works in progress.

We encourage creative and collaborative approaches that challenge traditional formats and highlight authentic partnership in action.

CRADLE Seminar Series: ‘Are you afraid of the doubt? Educator uncertainty in fully online programs’
Wednesday 15 July – 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm (AEST)

Can doubt ever be eliminated from education? Or does uncertainty have a valuable role to play in teaching - especially in online programs? Register now for CRADLE's seminar on 15 July to hear Curtin University's Professor Mollie Dollinger unpack what educator uncertainty means for fully online programs in an age of generative AI.

Many of the approaches adopted by higher education institutions in response to the challenges of generative AI are intended to offer educators a measure of certainty: that what we outline, mark, and credential rests on solid ground. Yet education cannot be undertaken without doubt and, while we can design for greater certainty and assurances, doubt is not a feeling we can avoid – and nor is it without value. To doubt is to be honest about the limitations of what we can teach, and what we can claim to know of students' learning. This is particularly relevant to fully online programs, which offer students crucial pathways to equitable access but are also where doubt runs sharpest. The real provocation for educators is not whether we can eliminate doubt from our teaching, but whether we are willing to confront it, to speak it, and to recognise where it has a place.

Australian Universal Wellbeing Symposium 2026 Advancing Wellbeing Research and Practice in Higher Education

How can higher education create environments where students and staff can thrive?

The Australian Universal Wellbeing Symposium 2026 brings together researchers, academics, educational leaders and practitioners to explore the role of wellbeing in student success, engagement, belonging, leadership and organisational effectiveness.

Confirmed speakers include Professor Phil Riley of Deakin University, whose research examines educational leadership and principal wellbeing; Associate Professor Linda Ferrington of UNSW Sydney, whose work focuses on medical education, student engagement and academic wellbeing; Dr Gabi Nudelman of UNSW Business School, whose research explores wellbeing within higher education and organisational systems; and Dr Jolene Morse, whose work spans leadership, governance and educational wellbeing.

The symposium will provide opportunities to engage with emerging research, exchange ideas across disciplines, and explore how evidence informed approaches can strengthen outcomes for students, staff and institutions.
