Call for nominations to the HERDSA Executive for 2023 - 2025 term
3rd March 2023 5.00pm AEST
This is a call for nominations for HERDSA Executive positions for the period July 2023 – July 2025.
The current HERDSA Executive will complete a two-year term at the end of June 2023 and all positions (except the President) are declared vacant.
The Executive consists of a President, President-elect (1-year term), conference convenor and eight elected members. The positions of Vice-President and Treasurer are determined within the Executive. Members of the Executive become members of one of the four portfolios: Secretariat, Publications, Professional Development and Networks. The portfolios are supported by a number of HERDSA Officers.
A call for nominations for the President-Elect position was made in March 2022 and Prof Kogi Naidoo was re-elected to this position for the July 2023 to July 2025 term.
In accordance with the Constitution the term of office for members of the Executive is two years. Individuals may serve up to three consecutive terms, after which they are no longer eligible for nomination in the following term.
If there are more than eight nominations for the Executive, a ballot will be held.
Full information is available on the HERDSA website at www.herdsa.org.au/call-nominations-herdsa-executive-2023-2025
This information includes:
• The names of the current members of the Executive and eligibility for re-election
• Position description for a Member of the Executive and Portfolio descriptions
• Details of the nomination process
• Nomination Form
• HERDSA Code of Practice
While the HERDSA Constitution does not stipulate branch or regional representation, branches are encouraged to nominate a representative to provide a link between the Executive and the branch committees.
Being on the HERDSA Executive requires a commitment of time. Nominees should be able to commit to the role and it is recommended that they seek the support of their line manager (where appropriate).
The closing date for nominations is 5:00pm AEST Friday 3rd March 2023. The new Executive will be ratified at the HERDSA AGM to be held during the HERDSA 2023 conference in Brisbane, Queensland.

ChatGPT and AI: Impact on classrooms and learning
11.2.23
The symposium will help educators make sense of ChatGPT and AI and will discuss challenges and impacts on schools. Hosted by C3L @ UniSA
AI has been advancing rapidly in research labs for the past 70 years. By Autumn 2022, however, AI made a dramatic impact in classrooms and schools around the world as the impressive outputs of ChatGPT become apparent. Over the last six weeks, media reports and conference presentations have raised the hype. What happens to education when AI can out-create humans? How do teachers monitor cheating and plagiarism? What and how should we teach in the age of AI? This symposium will provide insight and discussion from leading learning analytics and AI schools, detailing how technologies like ChatGPT can be practically used in classrooms as well as the challenges teachers and school leaders might face. Hosted by The Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning at the University of South Australia, the event will provide an engaging forum to make sense of AI and to openly discuss implementation challenges as well as impacts on schools. We will stream an online version of the symposium for those who cannot make it in person.
