EOI for a new SIG (Special Interest Group) HASS (Humanities, Arts and Social Science)
October 31
The objective of this proposed HASS SIG will be to explore through inquiry, conversation and collaboration the position and potential of HASS education in Australian tertiary settings. This proposed SIG will provide a platform for academics and scholars interested in SoTL within HASS area to exchange insights, engage in discussion, and share experiences while exploring new ways to prepare future HASS graduates for the world beyond university. This SIG will also create multiple opportunities for collaborations between all its members
It is common to hear doubts about the worthiness, applicability and viability of HASS degrees. In the Australian context, the previous federal government’s decision to double the cost of HASS degrees in order to steer students to other disciplines is evidence that HASS degrees are devalued. This proposed SIG will also explore the ways to foster the conversation within and beyond the academia and promote a social discourse in order to change the quality of contemporary debate regarding the HASS disciplines.
Please express your interest to be part of this SIG by completing this form https://forms.gle/kscmLxihNjNr6Dp37 by October 31, 2022. For any further enquiry please contact Dr Nira Rahman on nira.rahman@unimelb.edu.au

IJSaP seeks two additional editorial board teams
Application deadline: 12:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST) Friday 18 November 2022.
The International Journal for Students as Partners (IJSaP) wishes to appoint two new editorial board (EB) co-editing teams consisting of a staff/faculty member1 and a student2 from:
a) Canada (excluding McMaster University where we already have a team based)
b) A country not currently represented on the EB. We would particularly welcome applications from non-English speaking countries and/or parts of the world in which student-staff partnerships are an emerging development, but applications from other countries not currently represented on the EB are welcome.
They will join the existing EB, which consists of six student-staff teams in Australia, Canada, China, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States, plus a senior editor, an editorial manager, and a communications officer.
The journal
IJSaP is co-edited by students and staff/faculty and is run on partnership principles. The ethos of student-faculty/staff partnership is something that is a distinctive feature of the journal. IJSaP explores established and emerging perspectives, practices, and policies regarding how students and staff are working in partnership to enhance learning and teaching in higher education. The journal was founded in 2016 and the first issue was published in 2017.
IJSaP publishes articles, reflective essays, case studies, opinion pieces and reviews about partnership between students and others in higher education focused on explorations, practices, policies, and analyses of teaching and learning. It is an open access journal published twice a year by McMaster University Press. Further details are available at: https://mulpress.mcmaster.ca/ijsap/announcement
The positions
We welcome and recognise the diversity of skills and experiences students and staff may bring to the role of co-editors. Team members may be at the same institution or at different institutions but normally based in the same country/region.
Further information
Further details about the journal, the positions, the application criteria, and the application process are available from https://mulpress.mcmaster.ca/ijsap/announcement. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Prof Mick Healey, Senior Editor (mhealey@glos.ac.uk), or Dr Antonio Dos Santos, Editorial Manager (ijsap@mcmaster.ca), for an informal discussion about the role. Please address any queries about the application process to the Editorial Manager (ijsap@mcmaster.ca).
Please pass these details on to any colleagues outside Australia, China, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States, whom you think may be interested.

Survey into AI in the Professional Workplace
There is considerable hype about the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into health, legal and K-12 education contexts. We are higher education researchers interested in what actually happens in practice. We’d like to hear about your experiences – or lack of experience – with AI or AI-mediated technologies in the Australian workplace. Sharing your experience and/or views will help better understand how new education graduates can learn to work in future AI-mediated environments. Deakin University invites you to take 15-20 minutes out of your day to complete this survey. You can, if you like, enter your details separately for a chance to win a pair of Bose noise-cancelling headphones.
Please feel free to forward the survey link to anyone that you think might be interested.
This study has received Deakin University ethics approval (HAE-21-172).

IJSaP 6(2) is published
We are delighted to let you know that the 12th Issue of the International Journal for Students as Partners (IJSaP) is now available from https://mulpress.mcmaster.ca/ijsap/issue/current.
This issue features the third iteration of ‘Voices from the Field’, which focuses on: ‘The art of partnership: Expanding representations and interpretations’. It aims to contribute to decolonizing efforts that move beyond the primacy of the written word in white-supremacy ways of thinking in general and in representing pedagogical partnership work. In addition to the introduction by the editors, it features 14 contributions of artistic/visual images/videos that represent, describe, or explain the authors’ experiences of partnership and up to 200 words of context/additional explanation.
You will also find 14 other manuscripts - 1 editorial, 3 research articles, 3 case studies, 6 reflective essays and an opinion piece. Altogether 22 students and 35 staff/faculty from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have contributed to this issue.
This issue of IJSaP, which is hosted by the MacPherson Institute at McMaster University and published by McMaster University Library Press, was co-edited by students and staff/faculty from Australia, Canada, China (Hong Kong), China (Mainland), UK, and US.
Potential authors (both staff/faculty and students) with an idea for a research article, case study, opinion piece, reflective essay, or review are strongly encouraged to send the editors (ijsap@mcmaster.ca) a brief proposal for a research article (including empirical research articles, theoretical or conceptual articles, and literature reviews), case study, opinion piece, reflective essay, or review before writing and submitting the article. This will help ensure that the proposed piece fits with the focus of the journal and encourages a conversation between potential authors and the editorial board. We also welcome hearing your views about the journal.
Staff/faculty and students who have interest and experience in students as partners are encouraged to indicate their interest in joining the International Reviewer Panel by completing the Reviewer Expression of Interest Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2Ao2MlJSORB0oNgIyBef2BA50v0dN...).
Please pass this announcement on to anyone you think may be interested.
