Invitation: HERDSA Mentoring and Coaching Support for Career Advancement
12 May 2023
Are you planning to apply for a promotion or a new job? If you are, you are invited to participate in HERDSA’s inaugural mentoring and coaching initiative to support you achieve your next promotion or next academic appointment.
Academics are facing everchanging, demanding working conditions. Early career women, in particular, must balance the challenging demands of their personal and professional lives. Many have young families, and some are also engaged in pursuing higher degrees with the imperatives of teaching and research. Women academic migrants who have migrated from their home countries no longer have extended family support they had in their home countries. They find themselves in a highly competitive culture and must learn how to navigate the ‘system’ and expected to perform at higher levels than their colleagues.
This pilot program led by HERDSA President, Prof Kogi Naidoo, as part of her ‘Women Leaders for the World Fellowship’ award (2023-2024) is limited to a maximum of 6-8 participants. The program designed around participants’ goals will include online individual/group mentoring and coaching sessions commencing in late May 2023. Participation and time commitment is negotiable (Up to 1 hour per month for between 6 to 9 months).
For further information and to nominate for the first cohort contact Kogi via email: drkoginaidoo@gmail.com.
Closing date for nominations is Friday, 12 May 2023.

PhD Opportunity: Connectivism - Learning Design Models for Networked Learning
Closes 24 May 2023
The University of South Australia – Australia’s University of Enterprise – is offering a contemporary project-based PhD with significant impact in our Centre for Change and Complexity. This PhD project will investigate new models of learning design, addressing how formal curriculum interacts with informal, self-directed learning in networked learning settings. With learners having greater control over their learning choices, we need to adjust designs to reflect individual autonomy and the institutional need for knowledge coherence and assessment. Open to domestic and international applicants, full-time, in-person in Adelaide. For details visit: https://unisa.edu.au/research/degrees/connectivism-networked-learning
