Invitation to apply for Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund 
30th September 2024

The Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund (RLPDF) aims at supporting early career researchers from the Oceania region in their development as researchers and in connecting with their home communities. The fund aims at supporting the creation of hubs of sharing or communities of practice among early career researchers. It recognizes the importance of two-directional knowledge flows between researchers and communities and honours the knowledge of those communities.

In the 2024 round one grant of up to AUD 5,000 (plus GST for expenses accruing in Australia) is available. Applications are due on 30 September 2024. For detailed information see the guidelines document.

HERD call for 2026 Special Issue Proposals now open
Deadline for EOIs 31 October 2024

The HERD Editorial Team has opened the call for 2026 Special Issue Guest Editors through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. The final selection of a Guest Editor (or Guest Editorial team) will be based on the following criteria.

  • Capable editor(s) able to deliver a high quality issue (ideally familiar with the Scholar One system).
  • Realistic plan and availability to meet the publication timeline along with plan to promote the issue (calls for submission and post-promotion once published).

Topic Guidelines

The Editors are interested in topic proposals that are:
- Responsive to the research published by HERD in recent years;
- Relevant, thought-provoking topic with international appeal to diverse HERD readership;
- Relevant, thought-provoking topic that opens up new area of inquiry or meaningfully extends an existing topic;
- Relevant, thought-provoking topic that will further collective knowledge of HERD readers.

An EOI can be submitted at any time prior to the deadline for consideration for the 2026 Special Issue. Email EOI as PDF to stephen.marshall@vuw.ac.nz with the subject “2026 HERD Special Issue EOI”.

Call for Abstracts - National Symposium on the Student Experience and Wellbeing in Higher Education
Monday 2 September

The Organising Committee for the National Symposium on the Student Experience and Wellbeing in Higher Education invites you to submit an abstract for a paper presentation on research, whole of university approaches or policies and good practice examples on one of the following broad topics:

  • The student experience in higher education
  • The mental health and wellbeing of higher education students

Each paper presentation will run for 30 minutes, including 10 minutes for Q+A. International presenters will have the option to present virtually if they are unable to attend the Symposium in person.

All accepted abstracts will receive an invitation for their full paper to be included in a forthcoming edited book, provisionally titled University Student Wellbeing in an Uncertain Future: Research, Policy, Practice.
