HERDSA Webinar - Sustainability Development Goals and Higher Education
1pm AEST, Thursday 27th April 2023
The United Nations has articulated 17 Sustainable Development Goals. My own pedagogical and research interest commenced some while ago where the UN previously declared the ‘Decade of Sustainability’. SDGs have now become a critical point of action for us all. But understanding what to do as educators is problematic. My own field of music can seem rather remote from the aim of zero poverty, but perhaps closer to the aim of good health and well-being or quality education.
In this webinar we will look at how we can embrace these goals as a focus for learning within our curriculum, look at some definitions and what that means for action, and hear some examples from the field of music.

Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund now open for applications
31 July 2023
The Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund (RLPDF) aims at supporting early career researchers from the Oceania region in their development as researchers and in connecting with their home communities. The fund aims at supporting the creation of hubs of sharing or communities of practice among early career researchers. It recognizes the importance of two-directional knowledge flows between researchers and communities and honours the knowledge of those communities.
In the 2023 round two grants of up to AUD 5,000 (including GST for expenses accruing in Australia) are available. The call for applications closes on 31 July 2023.

AI and the future of higher education - webinar 27th April
27th April
How will the rise in artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT revolutionise education and assessment?
Some universities around the world are considering moving back to pen and paper methods to circumvent the use of AI by students, but what if there was a way that AI could help in educating students, rather than hinder?
This webinar explores how AI can be ethically used for assessment to help our students develop the digital literacy required, and the need to develop culture of academic integrity to minimise the risks.
Join Senior Professor Sue Bennett, alongside Thomas King, Professor Rhona Sharpe and Professor Michael Henderson, to learn about how educators can navigate the future of AI in assessment design and implementation.
When: Thursday 27 April 5-6 pm AEST
Where: Online via Zoom
Moderator: Senior Professor Sue Bennett, UOW
Panellists:
· Thomas King, Industry Executive – Higher Education, Microsoft
· Professor Rhona Sharpe, Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Oxford University
· Professor Michael Henderson, Professor of Digital Futures in the Faculty of Education, Monash University

Impact of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
We are very pleased to announce the launch of several resources from the 'Impact Evaluation Initiative of Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoTL)' at The Open University, UK. These resources are being shared under a Creative Commons licence that will enable SoTL researchers to adopt and adapt the materials to suit their SoTL journeys.
The outputs are: ‘A compendium of case studies’ which details impact evaluation of 16 SoTL projects and their impact; ‘A guide for educators’ provides a toolkit for planning, monitoring and communicating SoTL’s impact; two ‘Workbooks’ for systematically planning and evaluating a SoTL project for possible impact; and the ‘Executive summary’ provides an overview of the initiative and the deliverables. Finally, by synthesising the evidence collated from the impact evaluation initiative, we have derived six values for impactful SoTL.
A summary of the initiative and links to the deliverables are in this blogpost: https://www.shaileyminocha.info/blog/2023/4/19/impact-of-scholarship-of-...
