Join us for the upcoming HERDSA Webinar: The 5C Formula for Impactful SoTL Projects
Wednesday April 30th, 12:00-1:00pm AEST (QLD time)
Whatever your journey has been so far, you might be interested in conducting your own SoTL project, but unsure where to start. While there's no one-size-fits-all formula, a helpful way to begin is by considering the 5C Approach. (Concern, Common Ground, Crack in Knowledge (Complication), Contribution, Course of Action). The 5C’s provide a structured yet flexible pathway to guide you through identifying and developing a project that aligns with your interests and goals.
Join Associate Professor Alice Brown (UniSQ, HERDSA Executive and SoTL Portfolio Lead) and Dr. Olga Kozar (Macquarie University) for a refreshed, popular workshop, where you’ll consider the 5C’s approach for selecting a promising research topic.
This framework will help you to conceptualise and develop a strong Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project. Bring your ideas, and let’s brainstorm together how YOU can select the most impactful research topic.

Seeking Participant Volunteers for a UNE Resilience in Higher Education and technology Qualitative Study
We would like to hear from academics at all levels who are willing to participate in this UNE PhD qualitative study (Ethics approval: HE24-129, valid 10/7/2026) investigating how academics in Australian higher education institutions adapt and manage their practice using workplace technology to complete educative work. The International Journal for Students as Partners seeks additional editorial board members (from outside Australia)
The International Journal for Students as Partners (IJSaP) wishes to appoint two new editorial board (EB) co-editing teams consisting of a staff/faculty member¹ and a student² from:
a) Canada (excluding McMaster University where we already have a team based)
b) A country not currently represented on the EB (i.e. excluding Australia, Canada, China, Pakistan, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States). We would particularly welcome applications from non-English speaking countries and/or parts of the world in which student-staff partnerships are an emerging development, but applications from other countries not currently represented on the EB are also welcome.
They will join the existing EB, which consists of eight student-staff teams plus a senior editor, an editorial manager, and a communications officer.
The journal: IJSaP is co-edited by students and staff/faculty and is run on partnership principles. The ethos of student-faculty/staff partnership is something that is a distinctive feature of the journal. IJSaP explores established and emerging perspectives, practices, and policies regarding how students and staff are working in partnership to enhance learning and teaching in higher education. The journal was founded in 2016 and the first issue was published in 2017.
IJSaP publishes articles, reflective essays, case studies, opinion pieces and reviews about partnership between students and others in higher education focused on explorations, practices, policies, and analyses of teaching and learning. It is an open access journal published twice a year by McMaster University Press. Further details are available at: https://mulpress.mcmaster.ca/ijsap
The positions: We welcome and recognize the diversity of skills and experiences students and staff may bring to the role of co-editors. Team members may be at the same institution or at different institutions but normally based in the same country/region.
Further information: Further details about the journal, the positions, the application criteria, and the application process are available at the IJSaP website. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Prof Mick Healey, Senior Editor (mhealey@glos.ac.uk), or Ian Steinberg, Editorial Manager (ijsap@mcmaster.ca), for an informal discussion about the role. Please address any queries about the application process to the Editorial Manager (ijsap@mcmaster.ca).
Application deadline: 12:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Friday, June 13, 2025.
Please pass these details on to any colleagues outside Australia, China, Pakistan, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States, whom you think may be interested.
