The HERDSA SOTL Modules form a unique resource and contribution to HERDSA members, offering a series of modules that introduces users to the nature, purpose, and process of scholarship of teaching and learning, and act as a capacity building resource to assist in developing and refining SOTL knowledge and skills. Higher Education Research & Development: Call for Papers – Special Issue 2025
Full article deadline – 30 April 2024

Submissions are invited for HERD's 2025 Special Issue, "Reimagining Higher Education Learning Spaces: Assembling Theory, Methods, and Practice", led by Stephen Marshall, Samuel Elkington and Jill Dickinson.

Share your theoretical, pedagogical, and methodological insights that examine new and emerging learning and teaching spatial practice ecologies in HE.

Pushing beyond normative conceptualisations and totalising critiques of learning spaces in HE, this Special Issue invites international contributions that seek to reimagine spaces and places for learning according to the level of complexity, nuance, and depth that they exhibit and the neoteric topologies of connection, social meaning, and practice that they promote. Contributions might represent, connect, and assemble new theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and/or practical interventions to explore any, or a combination, of the following illustrative spatial themes: Connected space / Embodied space / Relational space / (Socio)Material space

Papers should be submitted in their final polished and complete state for review by 30th April 2024 via Submission Portal.

Comedy show about the Three Minute Thesis, featuring current Asia-Pacific 3MT champion Agnes Mukurumbira
Friday January 19th

This Friday, come hang out with a bunch of comedians and higher ed folk as we laugh about the Three Minute Thesis on 'The Peer Revue'!

The Peer Revue is a comedy show in Melbourne where improvisers talk with researchers. This Friday we have a special guest, Agnes Mukurumbira, who is the current Asia Pacific Three Minute Thesis champion. She'll talk with some of Melbourne's finest improv comedians about her 3MT experience, and give her famous 3MT talk 'Investigation of essential oils as antimicrobials for application in food packaging'. Us improvisers will use what she says to fuel improv comedy.

The Peer Revue draws a decent crowd including PhD students and higher education scholars (and usually a few HERDSA members). It's a fun night out, and we often grab a drink downstairs at Theory bar afterwards. Research students and uni casuals can email me, the show's producer (and cast member) Phill Dawson p.dawson@deakin.edu.au for free tickets.

When: Friday January 19th 8:15pm
Where: Improv Conspiracy Theatre in Melbourne (near Parliament Station)
Tickets: https://improvconspiracy.com/shows/the-peer-revue
