Online educators – How do you organise your learning environment? Are you using digital badges? Share your experiences.

Are you a tertiary educator involved in one or more of the aspects of planning, designing, and / or teaching in online environments in a public institution in Australia and New Zealand?
If so, you are invited to take part in an online survey on digital badge use in online learning environments. The survey is intended to gather data on the ways in which both badges and learning environments influence student use of self-regulated learning strategies.
Participation is voluntary and will support my doctoral research. The survey is anonymous, and participants will not be identified. It should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.
Many thanks for contributing to this study!

New open access publications

Athabasca University Press has recently published two books as part of their Issues in Distance Education series which seeks to present informative and accessible overviews of research results, and discussions and explorations of current issues related to technologies, and services used in distance education.
Both titles are open access and are available to download in PDF format (available at http://www.aupress.ca/index.php/).

An Online Doctorate for Researching Professionals: Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation by Swapna Kumar and Kara Dawson considers the interest and demand for online terminal degrees across disciplines by professionals wishing to conduct research and fulfill doctoral degree requirements at a distance. Kumar and Dawson draw on their experience of implementing such a program at the University of Florida to share data collected from students and faculty members and to reflect on lessons learned developing the program in diverse educational contexts.

Assessment Strategies for Online Learning: Engagement and Authenticity by Dianne Conrad and Jason Openo argues that online and distance learning environments present an opportunity to realize the potential of engaged learning in the digital age. In this volume, practitioners will find not only an indispensable introduction to new forms of assessment but also a number of best practices as described by experienced educators.
