While the literature review of a journal article is much shorter than required for a thesis, it serves similar purposes. This online workshop explores the reasons for discussing the published literature in SoTL articles, how to use this to position your own research, and how to make strategic decisions about what to include in this relatively condensed piece of research writing.

Cally is a researcher developer at the Australian National University. CAULLT and HERDSA are delighted to report that as part of our recent Memorandum of Understanding, the Inaugural CAULLT / HERDSA Award for Outstanding Leadership in Research and Development in Higher Education was announced at the HERDSA gala dinner on 10 July 2024.

Applicants should submit their applications by 13 September. The awardees will be announced at the CAULLT 2024 Conference on 25 October 2024.

Invitation to apply for Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund 
30th September 2024

The Roger Landbeck Professional Development Fund (RLPDF) aims at supporting early career researchers from the Oceania region in their development as researchers and in connecting with their home communities. The fund aims at supporting the creation of hubs of sharing or communities of practice among early career researchers. It recognizes the importance of two-directional knowledge flows between researchers and communities and honours the knowledge of those communities.

In the 2024 round one grant of up to AUD 5,000 (plus GST for expenses accruing in Australia) is available. Applications are due on 30 September 2024. For detailed information see the guidelines document.

This is your opportunity to undertake a PhD with the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE.
Applications for Round 1 Higher Degree by Research DUPR PhD Scholarships for 2025 are now open! If you’re a domestic or international student specifically interested in the areas of assessment and/or digital learning, you can apply for a scholarship to undertake your research with CRADLE. The successful applicant will work on a project that considers assessment and/or digital learning in higher education, and will contribute evidence to inform assessment research, policy, and practice. We welcome applications that align to CRADLE’s research themes, and encourage applicants to consult our list of prospective topics.
• Effective feedback for learning – including feedback literacy
• The implications of generative Artificial Intelligence for assessment and feedback in higher education
• Academic integrity and assessment security in online assessment
• Developing evaluative judgement
• The role of the social world in feedback and assessment (e.g. culture, relationships, emotions, and power)
• New knowledge practices in a time of artificial intelligence

CRADLE Research Project - How do you engage with feedback? Take our survey now!

Feedback is incredibly important for learning, and it’s not just the information you get, but how you use it that could make a difference. Be part of our research project Exploring learners’ feedback literacy behaviours: take the Feedback Literacy Behaviour Scale to find out your strengths and weaknesses regarding how you engage with feedback.

We are looking for people to complete our survey who are aged 18+ years and study (or have studied) at a higher education institution (e.g., university, TAFE or college) in English. This will only take you about 10-15 minutes.

Invitation to teaching and learning practitioners
Participation in the project is anonymous, however, we recognise that many teachers might wish to know something about the feedback literacy behaviours in their student cohort. In the cases where over 200 students from a particular university cohort participate in the survey and consent to sharing their data in aggregate form with you, we will be able to provide a short summary report of the cohort’s feedback literacy scale outcomes. Please let us know by emailing project lead Professor Phillip Dawson p.dawson@deakin.edu.au to discuss if you are interested, as this process will require organisational consent from your institution.
