HERDSA Webinar: Active Learning in Higher Education
April 19th 2022, 6-7pm AEST

Active Learning in Higher Education:

1. Engaging students in authentic project-based learning to facilitate the development of graduate attributes in the context of professional preparation.
2. Sharing learning and teaching experiences with team-based experiential learning when transitioning from face-to-face to online learning.

The first presentation covers how integrating authentic project-based learning in the form of a song competition into the curriculum design fosters students’ employability thinking. The second presentation covers teachers’ and students’ team-based WIL learning experiences when they transitioned between online and face-to-face delivery modes at a large Australian university business school. Focus will be on how this experience during the pandemic can help to improve curriculum practice. Participants are encouraged to share their own active learning experiences.

Call for Expressions of Interest: Editor(s) of Higher Education Research & Development (HERD)
31 May

Expressions of interest are called for the position of Executive Editor and editorial team of HERD (Higher Education Research & Development). The appointment of Editor will be for three years initially with an option of renewal for a second three-year term. Preference will be given to applications that include members from Australasia.

Editors will be required to take up their appointment by January 1, 2023. It is anticipated that the new Editors will be appointed by mid-2022 to provide sufficient time for the current Editorial Team to provide a handover to the incoming Editors. 

The current Editorial Team comprises an Executive Editor and four Co-Editors, who oversee the screening and reviewing of submissions, as well as a Special Issues Editor and one Communications/Social Media Editor . The EOI will nominate an Executive Editor who is the primary contact person for the journal. The Executive Editor becomes an officer of the HERDSA Executive for the duration of the contract of the Editors.

The editorial team is responsible for setting and maintaining the editorial direction of HERD and overseeing the work of the Managing Editor (who is employed in a part-time capacity by the HERDSA Executive) and the Associate Editors. The Editor will be required to provide an update at each meeting of the HERDSA Executive, plus the annual report. In addition, the Executive Editor will write a short column for each issue of HERDSA Connect.

PATHES Online social meet - Slow Academia: A critical discussion

The Philosophy & Theory of Higher Education Society (PaTHES) presents a discussion series on slow academia.

What might closer attention to theorising slow academia offer? This season invites you to think critically about slow academia as a difficult but useful way of considering the intersections of self, others, time, place and institutions.

Six meetings on Mondays from 02 May until 06 June at 7-8pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (NZ 9-10pm; London 8-9am; Copenhagen 9-10am). Hosted by A/Prof Agnes Bosanquet (Macquarie University) and A/Prof Barbara Grant (Auckland University).

IJSaP Call for Submissions “The Art of Partnership”

Call for submissions to special Voices from the Field section: “The Art of Partnership”

We invite you to contribute to a special version of IJSaP’s “Voices from the Field” section under the theme “The Art of Partnership.” The goal of this section remains the creation of a venue for a wide range of contributors to address important questions around students-as-partners work without going through the intensive time commitment required by the submission, review, and revision processes. This focus on artistic genres/visual representations is in keeping with arguments regarding the need to expand the set of respected genres of writing about teaching and learning and be more inclusive of a diversity of authors. This special section will be co-edited by Nandeeta Bala (IJSaP Communications Officer and Vassar College class of 2022), Alison Cook-Sather (IJSaP US-team faculty co-editor), and Sarah Slates (IJSaP US-team student co-editor).

Submissions should include:
• Artistic/visual images/videos that represent, describe, or explain your experience of partnership
• Up to 200 words of context/additional explanation

By 16 May 2022, please share up to 200 words on your proposed art submission, including:
• The medium (video, painting, cartoon, photo, picture of sculpture, etc.)
• Text indicating what your representation intends to express about partnership.
