Webinars with Cathy Stone and Nicole Crawford: Online teaching - support for teachers and students
Wednesday 1 April and Tuesday 7 April
The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) will partner with the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) for two webinars presented by Cathy Stone and Nicole Crawford on 1 April and 7 April 2020.
Wednesday 1 April — Three Essentials in moving online
In these unfamiliar times, universities are suddenly needing to move face-to-face courses online. The presenters have previously written that this can be a tall order, even for experienced educators. However, including the “three essentials” that this webinar outlines means that even a hastily-developed online course can still deliver an effective and engaging learning experience for students.
With the need to quickly convert face-to-face classes, guidelines developed from recent Australian research can offer some direction. This webinar talks more about these three essentials and ways they can be delivered.

Tuesday 7 April — Supporting students’ wellbeing during COVID-19
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching staff at universities across the world are being told they must shift courses from face-to-face to online delivery — not next year; not next semester; but next week.
This webinar discusses preliminary findings from research into supporting the mental wellbeing of mature-aged students in regional and remote Australia, through ensuring that—in this time of physical distancing—online learning is delivered in ways that enhance student engagement and student wellbeing.

CRADLE Conference 2020 goes online! Plus: closing date extended!
Call for papers now closes Monday 6 April
To mark our fifth anniversary, Deakin University’s Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) is hosting a higher education research conference, 'University Assessment, Learning and Teaching: New Research Directions for a Postdigital World'.
In light of the challenging times facing the Australian university sector, we recognise that people may have limited funds to attend a face-to-face conference later this year or into 2021. Therefore, CRADLE Conference 2020 will be continuing as an online event. It will still take place from 19 to 20 October 2020.
The conference aims to provide a focused forum for higher education research as a discipline. Cutting-edge conversations will centre around rigorous, high-quality conceptual and theoretical contributions exploring the future of higher education research in a postdigital age. Our keynote speakers, Professor Monika Nerland (University of Oslo) and Associate Professor Alyssa Wise (NYU), are confirmed to present online.
We are calling for papers from researchers interested in conceptual, theoretical and empirical explorations of higher education in a postdigital world, aligned with CRADLE’s core themes:
• assessing for learning
• learning in a digital world
• learning through, and for, work.
We are particularly interested in research that advances theoretical, conceptual and methodological understandings. Categories: research papers, symposia, and rapid orals.
