This paper reports on an innovative strategy to improve students’ oral and written communication skills by designing a subject to reposition the skills as key graduate attributes. The paper provides an empirical investigation of the student experience in the subject. It documents student perceptions of the teaching and learning and presents students’ own views of their learning outcomes. The student perceptions are aligned with the pedagogy driving the course design that was created to maximise development of the graduate attributes.
