A unique opportunity has become available within the newly established Office for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (ALT) team for three Educational Designers to work collaboratively with academics in the provision of hands on support to design and develop courses that provide stimulating, engaging and effective learning experiences for students. These positions will work as part of a team of Educational Designers, with each Designer supporting one of the following disciplines:

Management, Commerce and Law (Springfield or Toowoomba based)
Creative Arts, Society and Culture (Toowoomba based)
Sciences and Health (Ipswich or Toowoomba based)

An invitation to participate in a research study
4th November 2016    

Dear colleague,

We are conducting a research study on Migrant academics.Often the academics coming from another country are accustomed to learning and teaching environments in their home country that might be very different from what they might be exposed to in their new context.  We are interested in exploring the consequent dissonance the academics may experience due to the differences in the learning and teaching environments and what negotiations the individuals make to acculturate in the new environment.

The first stage of the project involves an online survey and we would really value your contribution.

Teaching and Learning Forum 2017
Early Bird registration is available until 31 December 2016

The WA Teaching and Learning Forum (TLF) brings together educators from
institutes around Western Australia and beyond to discuss, share and develop
ideas on current trends and best practice in the Higher Education sector.
The TLF provides a perfect opportunity to disseminate the outcomes of your
funded project or share aspects of the study that have been successful or
challenging.

The theme for 2017 TLF is Innovation: Multiple Dimensions in Teaching and
Learning.  This Forum aims to include presentations that highlight and
explore innovations relevant to higher education. Some topics may include,
but are not limited to: curriculum of the future; emerging learning
technologies; global collaborations; STEM in higher education; graduate
capabilities or students as partners. Where appropriate, presenters are
encouraged to be as interactive and collaborative in their presentations as
possible.

Submission of refereed research papers, professional practice papers,
abstracts, workshops and posters are currently being accepted, please refer
to the call for papers for more detail at

encouraged to submit a presentation and take part in the 2017 TLF.

Early Bird registration is available until 31 December 2016 and travel
subsidies are available for staff from regional Western Australia to attend

Assessment for Indigenous health Education: a Capability Approach Symposium
February 24 2017    

This symposium presents the results of a two year National Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT) project examining the role of assessment in the area of Indigenous health education. The Capability Approach to Assessment is a practical guide. It provides ideas and strategies for designing assessment tasks and underpinning curricula to build capability for future work in Indigenous Health and similar contexts in health professional students.

Target Audience: Educators and researchers involved in developing and teaching Indigenous health education within all health professional programs  

24 February 2017, 10am - 4pm: University House at Woodward, 10th floor, Melbourne Law Building (106), 185 Pelham St, Carlton VIC 3053

Before Lunch (10am-1pm), Symposium: To present the project findings and to illustrate how to use the guide. The symposium will include: presentations from the project team; a panel discussion with institutional and disciplinary leaders in assessment an Indigenous health education and, a case example to illustrate how, when and why to use the assessment guide.  

After lunch (2-4pm), Workshops:  practical workshop-based discussion about how to use the guide to implement change in specific programs of Indigenous health education
